I want to connect an affordable ($230 - ($300) sound bar to my Samsung 48" 6300 series TV. Sony CT370 ($249) seems to be rated higher than comparable Samsung sound bars. Good idea or bad? Is it best to connect via the HDMI cable or optical?

Over $200 is not quite in the "affordable" range for a sound bar.

Good idea for a sound bar of that Sony?

I have a sound bar and like it, no surround speakers. Mine is a $100 Vizio one that I got for about $50 used, been running it for about 2 years now, sounds great although for real movie BOOM you'd need a sub with it. Read a bit about the Vizio bars, could save you a few 100 to go with a lower brand name that is likely to sound as good.
