Sound bar requirements

I've just bought a veon sounds bar connect ed with red White cable supplied but doesnt work do I need to get HDMI cable

Try identifying the audio out ports available on your tv (check the manual). The red and white on your tv are most probably in, not out.

HDMI doesn't help unless both the TV and soundbar support HDMI-ARC.
If the soundbar has only red/white analog audio inputs and the TV doesn't have an line level or headphone audio out then you will need a digital to analog converter to connect them. If the TV doesn't have any audio outputs then you will need to connect the soundbar directly to your external source (ie cable box).
