sound problem on Acer

my acer started a load pitch screeming sound similar to holding a mike near a speaker. I then had no sound at all. Suddenly, after a couple of months,I've got the high pitch screaming back with sound, people think I have an attack alarm. Any ideas to repair it or is it a new laptop or shop job?

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the audio drivers?
And make sure in the control panel, that the mic isn't set to 'on', you could be getting reverb back through the speakers...
