Sound problems ,cannot get via sound system

I have a Samsung 3d TV and a Samsung blu ray system and a home theatre all round sound system. I have been very pleased with it and it functions great.
My problem is that I have now got Apple TV that I have installed. This is fine,but to get sound I have to turn off the home theatre and have sound via television. Can anyone advise how I can get it through home theatre all round sound? Ps my IT knowledge is very poor so would appreciate ant response as simple as possible. Many thanks

How is your Apple TV hooked up? Without knowing all the details, I can only assume that it is connected directly to your TV and not to your sound system. On the back of your Apple TV box should be a port labeled "Optical Audio". If you connect that to your sound system, it should work.
