Speakers not detected by computer

Hello!
My speakers are not detected by my computer. They work fine on my laptop and used to work fine on my desktop but not anymore. I used the troubleshooter and it said the speakers are not plugged in, I am using windows 8.1. Anyone have any idea what the problem may be?

What speakers? What PC?

Are they plugged into the green jack at the back of the PC? (on the motherboard)

Yes they are. The PC has a asus m5a99fx pro r 2.0 mobo

Also I don't have realtek audio manager anywhere on my PC

Insignia 10K05A I think.
I downloaded realtek audio manager now and drivers, still does not work

R Click on speaker icon. Click on playback devices. Speakers enabled?

Yes all enabled. still does not work

Check in Control Panel, Device Manager whether all your audio devices are working.

R Click on speaker icon. Click on volume controls.

It says they are working but it also says they are not plugged in even though they are

What volume are they at in Volume Controls?

They are at 100 volume in volume control. The speakers work fine if I don't change anything on them except plug them in to another computer.

Hey do you know if adding a sound card to the computer will fix the sound?

Depends where the problem is.

Download and install Realtek Audio Manager. It should've been with the drivers you installed from the motherboard disk.

Ok I did and I reinstalled drivers and all that still does not work

Then maybe the speaker ports on your mobo are faulty. You should RMA your motherboard.

that would really suck I really don't want to have to replace everything the mobo just for that. Do you think maybe if I connected the monitor through HDMI and turned on sound through HDMI it would work?
