The G73J is getting a bit old to be something viable for the amount of power you need to run photoshop. Now it will increase the speed of the whole process, but you won't really see massive gains. You have to remember that photoshop is not only reliant on the RAM, but the CPU which is now 3 generations old as well as the GPU which is 2 soon to be 3 generations old. My advice would be to stick with what you have or save up a bit until you can get a new computer, since you cannot interchange the CPU/GPU in the current machine. If you really need the small performance gain from adding more RAM, go for it but I would advise against it in this case.

Thank You for your response.
I will take your advice.
I can use this laptop for tethered shooting and developing at home.

Any advice for specing out a workstation to use in studio as main machine?

First make sure you have Intel® i7-720QM / i7-820QM Processor or Intel® Core™ i7-620M/ i5 / i3 processor. If you either Intel® i7-720QM or Intel® i7-820QM only then you can upgrade upto 8GB of memory else 4GB is the max.

Note: This Notebook PC may come with two or four DIMM slots for your future upgrade. Follow the DIMM slot number for a correct memory installation sequence.

Not sure if a single 4GB module will work but you can try it as crucial states that 4GB is compatible. Click here for 4GB module.

For workstations I always desktop over laptops because of the performance, power and its potential. Desktop can handle things rather laptops, so i'd say go with Dekstop. You can either build your own or if you need then go with OEM based like alienware, HP workstation, Dell precision workstation. I recommend you too build your own rather than going for OEM based systems.

Good luck!!
