I am wondering which is the best for creating databases on the PPC, mainly I
want to create a music cd database and maybe also a grocery list with a
total feature.
Any input welcome.

You might give XSForms and XSDesigner a shot before you decide. It doesnt
have all the features of some DB's but being free is a great selling point
;) For things like you describe it may be perfect.

Yep I agree, their program is excellent and easy to pick up without
needing to know any programming. It happens there's a CD catalog form
included as a demo ;-)

Ok,, had a quick play with these databases. A simple qestion on the grocery
list. Is it possible to do a total cost of the groceries selected or should
I stick to excel for something like that?

I think you can do this sort of stuff, but really it gets down to
reading up on the forms designer, I'd check their forums to see if the
question's been asked there.

They have a very basic database query language in there, so it's quite
possible you can do something in the forms designer to make subtotals
and sums. Still, excel is probably better to work with for just
numeric data, I think xsforms is better as a information store though,
more configurable and 'skinnable'.

HanDBase is easier to use, but also less powerful. Do you *really*
need a full blown database app or are you just interested in basic
lists? If lists, check out ListPro from www.iliumsoft.com - it is a
list manager on steroids and does very simple databases.

If you need relational databases though, you'll need HanDBase,
SprintDB or something else.

Both can do what you want, I use
Handybase for my amateur radio contacts
that I make but I use Sprintdb to access a
databook wevhave at work.

I've looked at both and while I think SprintDB is technically the better
and more powerful db, in the end I went for HanDBase. To fully use Sprint
you have to become proficient in SQL.

My needs were for a fairly limited relational ability and HanDBase could
do that without me having to dredge up from the back of my memory my
'varsity SQL training.

Your needs appear to be flat file only and HanDBase would do fine.

I enjoy Hand d Base & support staff has been awesome. I run clubs for girls
& we have benefitted from the forms for projects & activities-very easy.
