stereo surround sound

Hi i have a Samsung giga stereo and Samsung smart tv. Im trying to hook up together. I have it hooked up with red and white rca's tv is set to audio out stereo is turned up. And i get no sound at all i have to AUX settings on the stereo tryed them both and nothing can someone please help me thanks

You cannot get surround from 2X RCA cables. You need to use whatever digital output/ input is available.
The source (DVD, etc) needs to have surround encoded on it to start with.

Are you sure your TV has analog audio outputs? Maybe you are connected to inputs. The model number of the TV would help. Many TVs only have optical audio out. A DAC can convert that to analog if needed.
