Question Strange electrical/static sound from inside ASUS Vivobook (not speakers)

Hi there,

I recently bought a new Asus Vivobook - the sticker says "Asus Creator Laptop Q OLED". The specs are as follows:

Processor 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13620H 2.40 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.6 GB usable)
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6GB Laptop GPU + Intel(R) UHD Graphics
Wireless Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6E AX211 160MHz
Storage SSD/EMMC 1 476GB, Micron_2400_MTFDKBA512QFM
OS Microsoft Windows 11 Home 64-bit

I'm unsure whether this issue has been present since I bought it ~1 month ago, but I only recently took notice of it. There is often an odd sound emanating from within the laptop (it is not the speakers), that sounds like some kind of electrical/crackling sound. It certainly does not sound healthy, nor does it sound like coil whine (a common sound I heard whilst googling the issue). I'd say it's present around 80% of the time, and varies in severity - sometimes it can be audible to me sitting at the computer even in a room with other background noise. It occurs both under heavy load and when there is no load at all (just plain desktop), and whilst plugged in and on battery. It is coming from roughly the center of the computer, beneath the keyboard, from what I can tell. Running hardware tests yields no errors, I've also done all the standard stuff like chksdk, DISM cleanup, driver and firmware updates, etc. I cannot seem to reproduce severity - in fact, the one time it was at its worst was whilst I had nothing but Chrome open.

This imgur link contains 3 recordings (full volume may be required to hear it well): View: https://imgur.com/a/U5hWK5L

Any idea what this might be?

Hey!! I bought nearly the same laptop around the same time, and have noticed the exact same problem. So far this is the only thing online that I have been able to find regarding the weird noise. I don't have any idea as to what it is, but I'm glad that I'm not going crazy!! The only thing I can add to the conversation is to say that the severity of the noise doesn't seem to affect performance, as far as I can tell?

Same issue with an Asus VivoBook 16 (M1605YAR-MB731W)

The noise is worse when you are in AC power. When in battery, this crackling electric noise is much less but it's still there.

You can immediately hear it from the moment you power on the laptop, even with not a single device connected to the laptop.

I noticed the noise the second day I bought the vivobook.

That's definitely not a healthy sound, any educated guesses on what this noise is are welcome.
