Sub only playing during sound test?

My setup is:
Monitors > presonus hp4 > audiofire 4 (outputs 1&2) > pc

Sub > audiofire 4 (outputs 3&4) > pc

The speakers can play sound fine, but no sound comes from the sub. During a sound test in the control panel the sub does play, but doesn't do anything when playing music. I tried setting the audiofire to stereo instead of surround, which separated the speakers and the sub. When i set the default device to the sub it worked, but not when i set it back to surround. I really have no clue what to do, please help

So apparently my sub works when I play sound through youtube, but still no bass for itunes, windows media player, foobar, etc. any help?

I have the same problem, I just got my Cerwin-Vega XD8S sub in today and connected it with my Bose companion speakers, but audio only plays during the soundtest--no matter how I hook it up.
