My (by now ancient) laptop has two 3,5mm jacks. One for an headphone and another for the mic. Because my laptop is so ancient I'm thinking of upgrading it. However most options nowadays only have one 3,5mm jack. How will that affect the performance of my peasant gaming headphones? I tried with my phone, it sound horrible so i'm quite worried about upgrading now.

Solution
There will be no change in performance. Is a mechanical thing, all you need are the appropriate adapter cables(s). I mean you may end up with extra "stuff" dangling off your laptop but other than that, is a non-issue.

Mabye I should have mentioned that my headset has a 3-rings aux cable and a splitter to headphone and mic.

I don't have a new laptop yet. But because my headphones sounds so horrible with my phone, I'm wondering if buying a new laptop with one only 3,5mm will impact my sound quality in a negative way.

The phone is not relevant.
