T-Adpter for Nikon D100

I have a new Nikon D100 which I would like to attach to an old Celestron 6"
reflector telescope. Many years ago I attached a Rollei SLR camera to this
telescope with a T-adapter for the Rollei. To connect to the telescope I
connected the T-adapter to the camera and something called a Tele-Extender
was screwed into the T-adapter on one end and screwed into the telescope on
the other.

Will the T-mount listed at the Ritz camera site as Quantaray T-Mount for
Nikon, catalog # 251660486, do what I want?

Yes! You will also want to get a remote control so that you can use the
"Bulb" setting on your camera.

In looking at the picture of the T-mount again, I think it is not the only
thing I need.

I also need some sort of adapter to connect to the Nikon's body (with the
same interface as a lens). Thus I what have in order from the camera to the
telescope: the adapter connected to the Nikon D100, the T-mount connected to
this adapter and finally the Celestron Tele-Extender connected to the T-
Mount.

Is this not correct. If so, where to I also get this adapter that joins the
Nikon body to the T-Mount?

There is a couple of ways too go here: A standard T-Adapter, or a
T-eyepiece. The T-adapter threads into the T-mount and then screws into the
Focal Back of your telescope (assuming your Celestron 6" is a
Schmitt-Cassegrain).

The other eyepiece adapter screws into the T-mount and has a standard 1.25"
tube protruding that you can plug in to the back of your telescope just like
an eyepiece.

Either will cost you about $25 - 30 bucks.

You can find these parts at Orion Telescopes. (http://telescopes.com)...
Just be aware that if you order anything from them, they will send you a
catalog about every 10 minutes for the rest of your life!

A standard T-mount adapter for Nikon will have a male Nikon F-mount
bayonet at one end and a female 42 mm thread at the other. The whole
idea behind the adapter is that it will fit the camera body.

It did not look that way in the photo. It appeared to be threaded on both
sides. Based on what you say, a standard T-mount for Nikon is all I need to
connect to the pieces I already have that connect to my telescope.

Then it isn't a T-mount for Nikon. I doubt that Ritz will use such an
established term as "T-mount" for anything else. Maybe they put up
the wrong photo?

Anyway. B&H sells one made by Bausch&Lomb for $17.95, and Adorama
sells an unbranded T-mount for $16.95. In both photos, you can see
the F-mount bayonet.

I use one on a N90s. It is all you need.

The T-Mount arrived yesterday from Ritz and is configured as you stated.
The Nikon D100 can now connect to my telescope. Too bad that I did all of
this a few weeks after we had the lunar eclipse.

I was caught unprepared once too, but never again.

Next time Halley's comet comes by, I'm READY.
