Tablet to TV connection via HDMI

I have a Nvidia tegra note P1640 and a Sony KLV 22 P413D TV . Also bought a HDMi cable with a micro HDMI adapter for the tab. When I googled in forums I found that it's plug and play . I get no signal all the time . Is there anything I should do when connecting ?

I have the micro hdmi adapters to be "less than good". One that used broke with very little force on the connector. I replaced it with a normal cables micro hdmi to hdmi cable. It is better although the "micro" portion is still finicky.

The connector is of high grade so is the cable. I'm concerned if there is any other settings or procedures to be followed when connecting an android tab to TV .
