Hi I have a laptop and a micro hifi which is old enough that it won't record my tapes to cd. It also doesn't have any output sockets apart from the headphone one. I have a cable to connect my hifi headphone outlet to usb port on the laptop. I have audacity downloaded to the laptop as well. Unfortunately I seem to be unable to record the tapes as audacity fails to recognise the hifi input and am looking for any suggestions. Thanks in advance folks

What cable exactly are you using for this audio to USB connection?

You may be able to set the audio jack on the laptop to set it to audio in, another option is a USB sound card with an input. Keep in mind you will probably need to boost the audio in the recording software.
