my samsung tv does not have a optical connection, but it does have a red and white anolog connection, when plugged in to it the tv does not recognize it. when I plug my anolog connection to my cable box the speakers work, but only for cable. would like for dvd to play through speakers also.

Could not find any info on your TV but I will guess that it may not have an analog output but an analog audio input. If your DVD has analog audio outputs then connect those to whatever you mean by "speakers". You might need an input selector switch to switch between DVD and Cable.
