How can I get rid of most of the suggestions and control what Tivo suggests
for the future?

You can delete anything (including Suggestions) from the Now Playing List
using the Clear button.

To influence what TiVo suggests in the future, rank programs using the
Thumbs buttons on your remote.

Highlight them in the ToDo list and press clear.

Turning off suggestions is in the manual.

Suggestions do not take space away from requested recordings, they are
deleted by Tivo first if a requested show needs the room.

Rate the suggestions. Give thumbs-up or two or three to the ones you
like, thumbs-down for the ones you don't. Train it, and it'll get
better.
