to get lost contacts

hello
i tried backing up my contacts through my gmail id but it offered to retrieve the contacts lost 30 days ago.but my contacts are lost since around 2 months.......so what can i do

How did you lose the contacts?
Ever run a backup of your phone to the pc or something else?
