Given the open nature of Android, anyone is free to develop an app to make your home smarter. There are currently hundreds of smart home Android apps, but not all are created equal. I have spent hours and hours looking through them all and have selected ten that look pretty good. So here are my top ten Android apps for your smart home.
Amazon Alexa
Given how many units of the Amazon Echo have been sold, it’s no surprise that the Alexa Android app is a popular one. You can use your phone to set things up, use voice commands and interface with both Echo and the wide range of compatible devices that play nicely with it.

Harmony
The Logitech Harmony app seeks to retry where the Revue left off. It works with Android compatible smart TVs and can control a range of smart devices through the home with the Harmony hub. The app is available free and will work with any Android TV device.

Yonomi – Smart Home Automation is a sophisticated app that can connected most smart home devices together, create scenes, automate functions and control many aspects of your home. It has a huge range of compatible devices, making this one you really should try.

Control4 for Android
If you have a Control4 system, this android app is a must-have. It allows you to control every aspect of your system. You can view the status of any connected device, control that device, create scenes, play music and video, adjust heating, lighting and more. It is a complete app for users of Control4.

Hue Vibes
Hue Vibes is a third party app that controls Philips Hue lights. It’s a polished app with a simple UI and makes it easy to set up your lights, control them, set timers, colors and control every aspects of your Hue lighting. The neat color chart to control light color is a neat touch too.

Samsung SmartThings
I’m trying to avoid the manufacturer apps for this list because we all know they exist and how to get them. Yet Samsung SmartThings is such a cool app that it is impossible to ignore. If you use the system, this app helps you control every aspect of it, from lighting to heating and everything in-between.

Smart Home Surveillance Picket
Smart Home Surveillance Picket is another IP camera app that allows you to watch over your home. This one also works with Google Drive and offers motion detection alerts, night vision mode, UHD compatibility and more. It is an accomplished app with lots of features.

Loxone Smart Home
The Loxone Smart Home app is another do it all app that can control many functions in one UI. It allows control for lights, appliances, thermostats and video. It allows push notifications, NFC actions and scheduling via weather data. It even includes a smart room designer. Well worth checking out.

Gideon Smart Home
Gideon Smart Home used to be Alfred Smart Home. It allows full control over a wide range of devices from many manufacturers. It’s another do it all app that also lets you assign permissions to visitors, family and friends, as well as manage multiple properties from the same app. There’s a lot on offer in this app.
