Hello there,
I have a questions about how to recognize which CPUs are compatible with my current laptop. The exact model is Toshiba A300-15E.
As I understood I have to check three things before starting: motherboard, chipset and BIOS version. So, how to do this?
When I type "sudo lshw | less" in the terminal the result is:
- Firmware: BIOS ver. 4.20 (01/05/2009). I updated it once before a year, so probably there is not any newer version.
- Chipset: It says everywhere Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960. Is that three versions all same? Or is it the first one, i.e. PM965?
- Motherboard: Couldn't find any information.
The socket should be Socket P. I'm still not sure but here it says Socket P for Dual Core T23*0 and mine is T2370.
Then, for this chipset I found this:
http
/ark.intel.com/products/29822/Intel-82PM965-Memory-Controller?wapkw=pm965
Here I'm looking for max TDP and FSB. Max TDP for my CPU is 35W, but max TDP for Intel PM965 is 8W. This is a little bit confusing.
So, what should I do before starting to search a new CPU? What to check? How to do it?
Also I want to ask about the WiFi adaptor. Is it possible to upgrade it with one which has the N standard because now my Internet speed is cutted down from the WiFi adapter to around 2mb/sec. maximum.
Best regards.
