Received this laptop to see if it can be revived. When turned on, I just get a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. Not even the Toshiba splash screen. These are the things I have tried so far:

  1. Removed battery and held power switch down for 20 sec.
  2. Took out the ram modules and tried swapping them and also tried running with a single stick of ram.
  3. Tried booting without the HD.

Every time I get the same result.

The screen is lit up and the cursor is in the left hand corner. I am getting the power button and the indicators to the right of the power button to light up.

I also get the leds for power, charging and a flashing HD after I hit the power button.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Joe

The laptop isnt completly dead. I have the AC adapter plugged in and when I hit the power button the screen lights up along with the indicator leds next to the power button. I dont even get to the Tosbiba screen or POST test.

If the HDD was dead I would at least get through the POST test.

Does this help?

UPDATE I was turning it on and off and one time I left it on with the cursor blinking and got to the Toshiba screen and the POST test. Came up with where to boot from and HDD was dimmed.

Can't get it to repeat.

Would a bad cmos battery be doing this.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
