I have a Toshiba laptop that has had a bad internal battery for a while. We use it only through ac power that is plugged into a surge protector.
The surge protector is plugged into an outlet that has a switch to it. We had a guest over that accidentally turned off the switch, which then remained off for a day. We realized and turned the switch back on but now after a couple of minutes of being turned on the laptop just stops and goes into sleep mode.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do? What may have happened?

If the battery was bad, but you used it on the charger only, it is possible that the battery had a 'slight' charge in it which the laptop needed. Many laptops won't work without a functioning battery. So replacing it may be necessary.

You should also checking in "Control Panel" and then go to "Power Options", "Change plan settings", "Change advanced power settings" and then check all options there. Any setting that is set to turn things off/save power could be the cause if the battery was set to be used for anything at all in there.
