Hi,

I am in the process of Toshiba attempting to settle with me on a lost laptop in the post.

The laptop was a very high spec 3d Toshiba Qosmio X770 i7 2630QM. with GTX560M, 120GB SSD, 1TB 17.3"

How do they come to a settlement in price? And what should I be looking for as a the settlement value.

I bought it for a couple of hundred discount at the day of purchase when it was new and that was in 22nd December, 2014.

Solution
In terms of modern day equivalence... Based on information available at Notebookcheck.net, the GTX 560m's performance is a little better than the 930m, and definitely not nearly as powerful as a 940m. The i7-2630QM is ranked close to a dual core i5-7300u

A modern laptop with an 8th gen quad core i5-8250u and nVidia mx150 GPU would definitely be more powerful than your old laptop. The mx150 is the successor to the 940mx and it is about half way between the GTX 950m and GTX 960m GPUs. The mx150 is considered to be a mainstream GPU with the GTX 1050 (a little better than the GTX 965m) considered...

$ == £ in value, i suppose £500 is a good response if it comes back with that.

I'll just buy a different laptop , i suppose i already have the company depreciation for 3 years. was wondering, if I could get a like-for-like - if pressed? Toshiba has said that these laptops i have is a 'short run' laptop, and therefore is rare.

That's really something you'll have to take up with Toshiba. Anything is possible, but my experience has generally been that like for like is not happening, particularly on old models. You can always try your luck.

Notebookcheck.net ranks the mx150 above the GTX 580m SLI.

The least expensive laptop at Amazon UK with an i5-8250u and mx150 is the following Acer for £649.00. For the first round of negotiations I would ask them what they think about £400, however, given the age of the laptop and it's performance I think £300 is more realistic.
