Toshiba S55-A5295 won't start

got back from work and laptop, which was working perfectly and shut down correctly earlier would not start. Power button does not light up and nothing appears tobe happening when I try to turn it on other than white power light at front. Any ideas please?

Take the batter out and see if it will start.
Try running it just off the battery.

Test the power supply with a volt meter.
