Toshiba Techra R840 will not turn on; have tried the recommended battery removal process and nothing. The power light (yellow) and battery light (orange) come on and remain on, and the light second from the right flashes when I press the power up button (it looks like audio or signal out symbol?) Nothing at all - no sound, no screen activity whatsoever, no noise, no fans nothing. It is a couple of years old but rarely used. Thanks for any advice.

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that I suggested to others that may help.
- Start by doing a hard reboot, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then try booting it up again.
- If this will not work, do test the AC adapter if it's working properly. Remove the battery and power the laptop with just the AC adapter connected and see if it will boot up or not. do also try a different AC adapter that has the same voltage and see if it will work or not.
- Proceed with reseating the RAM's if trying a different AC adapter will not work, remove them all for couple of seconds then put them back in making sure everything is seated properly.
- If it will still not work, connect an external monitor and see if you'll get any display from it. If there's a display on the external monitor that could mean that the problem is the built in display.
- But if there's still no display on the external monitor that means the problem lies in the motherboard.

thanks for your help. I have tried the hard roboot and the AC adapter by itself; I have two other adapters, one toshiba but both have different plugs, so can't do that just now. I have reseated the ram and tried the external display to no avail. I should have said that the power and battery lights are on only when the adapter is plugged in, and not with the battery alone. I had also taken this laptop to a tech months ago who basically claimed it was too hard; suggested he could order a new fan but didn't really know if it would make any difference. Throughout everything I have tried, there is not one sound, blip, buzz or any indication of activity in the laptop; I am wondering if I should just order a new battery and adapter and try that?

Do you think this is a good idea?
