It may just need a driver update, please do try to uninstall/reinstall it's driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Touchpad driver.
- Once completely uninstalled, download and install the latest driver.
- Reboot the laptop once the latest driver has been installed.
- After the reboot do test it again and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- If the same problem will persist do also check the Power Management of the Touchpad and make sure that it's not set to turn off to save power.
