alternatively, if you don't want to plug in the iPhone, you can just make sure photos are backed up to iCloud and then go to iCloud.com and log in then download them. Or even use the iCloud desktop application to get them that way.

Your iphone will show up in your finder. Plug it in via usb. Unlock the iphone and then you can access it on your pc in finder in the drives section and transfer what ever photo folders you want to new folder. Remember, your just copying them over, so if you want them removed, you have to do that from the phone.
