More info?)
Cheaper yet ( depending on where you are going) buy the European SIM before
leaving the US from a discounter such as http

Air mailing a SIM from Europe to the US takes about a week.
But, again, you need to get your worldphone unlocked or get on ebay some
such and buy a 900-1800 MHz unlocked phone.
The Ericsson R520m is one such phone. It's discontinued but there are quite
a few still in the pipeline. It is an excellent full-featured (i.e.,
Bluetooth, GPRS, but mono display) It also has the 1900 US GSM band in
addition to the two European ones.
If there is a reason to buy a locked world phone from Cingular -- or anyone
else -- it sure eludes me..
