Trying to record from VHS to DVD through Samsung Smart TV

I am trying to record from sharp vhs to Panasonic dmr-xw440 DVD recorder through Samsung smart tv, I first connected direct with the red,yellow and white connection, and same from DVD to tv, using AV channel. DVD recorded tv channel.
Then connected three cables direct from vhs to tv, through AV channel, tv recognised signal but DVD still does not record from vhs.
What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to record from vhs video to Panasonic DVD through uhd Samsung smart tv.
I have tried the multi three coloured cable from vhs to DVD, but got no picture also added another three colour cable from DVD to tv, finally went from vhs output to tv, and now have picture, selecting AV channel, still will not record from vhs, DVD records from tv channel.
The HDMI video format is set on auto

You can't record through the TV since it doesn't have video outputs.
You need to connect the AV output of the VCR to the AV input on the recorder.
Select that as your source on the recorder rather than the built in tuner.
Connect the recorder to the TV for playback.
