My laptop is an Asus k501ux, 8gb ram, gtx 950, i7... Etc, in an unfortunate turn of events the laptop took a free fall from 2 stories, the screen was destroyed but the metal build of the laptop took most of the fall, the hinges were completely destroyed and the screen came off, however the motherboard seems to have made it along with the drives, I had a sata sandisk 240gb ssd for my games and a 250 m.2 ssd for boot and some other games, the sandisk ssd was fine but I can't find an adapter for the m.2 drive, and I want to try to check if the laptop is still functional, it doesn't have a VGA port but it does have an HDMI port and I need to find a way to test it to see if it still works and if I can use it with an HDMI screen, any ideas on what I have to do, it's been a while since the incident and I can't remember if it had a password or no and I still didn't manage to plug it to an HDMI screen because I don't have one, I'm going to try to test it at my friends home but I want to make sure I know what to do first, I read that I need to close the lid after turning it on so it switches to the HDMI but it has no lid to begin with, here are a couple pictures of the laptop. http://imgur.com/IXFWwxB

Solution
if no screen attached to the laptop then the monitor is now the default screen as that is what happens to my acer laptop after removing it's screen.
