TV Input Help!

So my vhs/DVD player is all hooked up according to the instructions, and I haven't used it in a while. Now I can't remember which input to use. All I have is the regular TV remote, and the buttons on the front of the player.
*My TV is a Vizio, but I'm not sure if it's a 'smart' tv or whatever*

Couldn't you just turn on the vhs/dvd and then go through the inputs?

I already did, but It still won't work
