TV Picks up 6 channels regardless of HDTV antenna type or location

My TV is connected to an HDTV antenna (which I just upgraded) regardless of location or brand of antenna my TV only scans and detects 6 channels. Could this be an internal tuner issue, if so, is it possible to add an additional external tuner to compensate?
