Tv to home theatre problem

I just bought a sceptre 40 in tv. I also have a samsung home theatre system. The home theatre is HDMI only so my old tv I needed a converter to let it work and all the speakers worked great and the picture was good. On this new sceptre tv I have the HDMI connected and it works however the surround sound won't work. When I go in to the H.T settings and change it to home theatre it automatically changes the settings back to tv speakers. Any ideas?

Try a different audio output type in the TV audio menu.
Try turning off CEC in the TV.
