I've recently been using the y50 for some gaming, and I've noticed that periodically my performance will significantly drop.
I'm running mirror's edge at max setting, and getting a pretty steady 60 FPS (the screen only has a refresh rate of 60 hz, so this is my max FPS. I only notice it periodically drop into the 50s)
All of a sudden my screen will get dimmer, and the FPS will drop 30 frames. I think it has something to do with my laptop charging. the laptop says it will stop charging between 95-100 power to prolong the life of the battery, but it maintains the charging icon when doing this, and the power plan stays the same (max performance).
is it possible that my charger is faulty? After unplugging and replugging the cable in the brightness went up again, signalling a change in my power plan (based off of whether my computer is charging the brightness changes), but my graphics performance was still at a steady 30 FPS, half of what it should be.
Another thought is that my computer used to periodically turn off my wifi card to save power (annoying during long downloads). Is it possible my laptop is doing the same with my graphics card?
any thoughts or solutions? similar issues? suggested troubleshooting?
I've had a couple of problems with the laptop already (often corrupts data during installs of games/files, faulty headphone jack, very unstable trackpad performance). Could I just have a lemon?
