Unlock Password Protected Acer

My Sisters Acer 5517-5689 was stolen and now all she has is a login screen. She has a backup disk and system repair disk so once she can get on she can reformat the drive - right? But how to get around the password protected?

if you mean BIOS password, then you need to contact Acer support. You also need to have proof of ownership.

Thanks for your reply, I'm not sure if it is BIOS or not (she is in Washington & I'm in Missouri) so all I know is what she tells me over the phone. How do you know if it is the BIOS password or just the password of who ever stole it?
