I use Toshiba satellite c855d-s5232 with original memory of 4 gb. now would like to increase the memory by adding another 4gb .
bought Kingston 4GB DDR3 1600MHz PC3 12800 SODIMM without looing details..toshiba suggests Kingston® 4GB 1600MHz DDR3L and/or Kingston® 4GB DDR3 1333MHZ Memory Module.
can I use the memory module I bought without spoiling either laptop or memory ?
I have still not tried installing it in the laptop.
having already bought the ram mentioned yesterday I installed it in the laptop. the system says hardware change and says 8 gb ram installed.
is it possible even after the system finding 8 gb ram it will not work with it ?
any adverse effect happen to my laptop ?
eagerly awaiting for some advices. should I remove it ?
I could not find the above post until just now .
I want to mention I use Gentoo Linux and windows 10 now
Well if you are using a 64bit OS then it should already be available. To be sure you can open Run window in W10 (win logo+R) and type in it msinfo32
This should open a new window showing your entire system info and there you can look if its recognizing the ram. See what it says under Total physical memory and Available physical memory
Time Zone India Standard Time
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB
Total Physical Memory 7.59 GB
Available Physical Memory 6.06 GB
Total Virtual Memory 8.78 GB
Available Virtual Memory 7.19 GB
Page File Space 1.19 GB
msinfo32 reports above memory status
