Just other day, I was l looking at the manual for my laptop. (maintainance and service guide)
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5227733&
the specs of my laptop are as follows:
ram: 1x4gb
cpu: i5 2450m
hdd: 500gb
graphics: 1gb 7450m / 6470m (not so sure).
the guide clearly said that it can support even 1st gen cpu! I was very much surprised. so, my question is, if it can support 1st gen cpu then is there a chance that it can support 3rd gen i5? if yes, what model otherwise, why not? please make this clear to me. I am very eager for an answer.

Laptops are not designed to be user upgradable, changing the CPU would be not be a straight forward swap like a desktop machine. The fact you're not sure what graphics it has does not bode well for a successful CPU upgrade.
