Upgrading old Dell Inspiron

I have on old Dell Inspiron 530 and I am upgrading it simply to extend it's life. Dell no longer supports it, so support requests are out for Dell.

I upgraded the BIOS, flashed it, but computer will still not boot to BIOS. Power button just remains yellow, fans are spinning, etc. But I got nothing.

I rechecked everything and it seems to me everything is compatible. So I am just trying to get confirmation. Bad CPU or am I still screwing something up here?

When you return the old CPU does the laptop still works?
You're betting on a dead horse. There are good chances the new CPU generates more heat / needs more power than the old ones, so the other hardware around it just does not power it up.

you're problem is probably related to the power supply; that's a cpu with x2 the power draw as your old one.

Furthermore are you 100% certain that your motherboard is a Foxcon g33m? Dell often modifies the parts in it's pcs to make them dependent on Dell for part updates. You may want to look at dell specific bios updates, see if there is one specific to your product (with the dell service tag) which will grant support for that cpu.

Finally it's REALLY rare for a LGA775 motherboard to be able to support both a dual core core2 E series chip and an intel extreme edition chip. seems a unlikely to me. And even if your board can, I'm willing to bet there is something wrong with either the power supply or ram preventing full compatibility.

1. Yes I am absolute certain it is the G33M. It is printed into the mobo.
2. Updated the BIOS directly from the Dell website based on the service tag of my machine.
3. The foxconn website says both CPUs passed for the motherboard.
4. I upgraded the power supply a while back to a 400 watt anticipating the CPU upgrade. (my mother in law blew it, long story.)
4a. I am only running 1 extra HDD, and a 1 GB Graphics card. Nothing too strenuous on the power supply.
5. RAM is 1GB x 4 DDR2-667MHz PC2-5300U

hrm... then double check the socket, make sure none of the pins got bent when you swapped out the cpu. those LGA sockets can be a pain in the backside.

try a full clr_cmos (remove the battery, unplug the system, and hit the jumper, leave it like that for a few minutes)

try swapping around the socket the ram is in too
