Long story short I was given an old sony home theater system. Hooked it up to see if it works and realized this system is old as hell. It didn't have any modern audio ports it only had rca ports and the mic port was the size of a pencil... lucky I had an adaptor.. so I was able to test it with my phone... sound was pretty good. My question is which newer receiver is compatible with this system? And if there is none, what would be the least complicated way to get this system connected to my TV(vizio)?

Solution
Most HTS systems have all the amplifiers (including for the subwoofer) in the main unit.
All AV receivers assume you will be using a self powered subwoofer so they never have the sub amp built in.
All the other speakers from the old Sony will work on any AV receiver but you would need to buy an additional amp to power the old sub (or a new self powered sub).
You can connect all your sources to the new receiver and send the video to the TV or you can leave all your sources connected to the TV and use the audio out of the TV to send sound to the receiver. If you have a bluray player that will produce it's best sound when connected with HDMI into the receiver.
