Useless RTV customer support call.

I had posted a message about S-video here. I didn't get any solution so
I thought I would try RTV's so-called customer support. After being on
hold for about 10 minutes I got someone, who simply told me that they
don't recommend S-video. Since I can't get it to work properly, I can
understand that, but that is no answer.

I had another issue about replay zones and was simply told that it wasn't
in her area and I should contact RTV.

If you try to reach RTV by email, you get nothing but an automated
response. Very frustrating.

By the way, it wasn't India that I reached, since I have found the
Indians to sometimes be helpful, and never rude.

If someone thinks they can help with the s-video problem could you email
you and I can give you details.

Thanks.

Most everyone uses Svideo. What is the "problem".

Tell me about you S-video problem, I got it working in two tries on my
system and whomever told you they do not recommend it clearly has not
read their own product manual (Where they clearly do recommend it)

Tell me what your problem is and I'll see if I can walk you through it.
Here are some guidelines

1: You need a good S-video cable, bad cables simply do not work (rare bu
t happens)

2: S-Video only works on LINE 2 Direct input, it will not work on line one

3: In SETUP you have to tell it that Line 2 is using S-Video (It will
require I use a different computer to reply to you if you need
instructions on doing that so E-mail please, not usenet, note my address
is munged and you will need to edit)

And that's about all there is to it.

I found out that I can't also have the satellite receiver indicated as
being also on IN1. Making IN1 empty fixed the problem.

The zone for ***+ movies is screwed up. It is a mixture of ****, ***+
and *** movies. Since most of them are *** it does me no good to find
the ***+ gems amongst the others. RTV has been completely unresponsive
to this problem, which is a problem with whoever supplies the content for
the zones.

Or set IN1 to some other device (such as a dummy device to make
recording from other sources such a a VCR easier, I do that). One
thing they don't tell you, is that the Replay refuses to use duplicate
devices.

So you let someone else tell you what movies to watch?

No, they don't tell me what to watch. They let me know what is playing
without having to look at all the trash that is out there.

I'm going to ask a question here... Sounds like I might known the answer
but it is easier to ask and be enlightened than to expierement and loose
shows I really wanted to record.....

If I happen to like a series of shows, 2 or more, which have different
names but all of which contain a common string. IE: CSI (CSI Miami, CIS
NY) can I set up a zone to get the partial (CSI) and expect it to get
them all?

TIA

I do recognize that there is considerable variation in what people
like, and have no intention of letting someone else take over a
function of my owm mind.

I will consider reviews that actually say something about the movie,
not just how well someone else likes it.

Yes, I do exactly that. I have that set up to get the various and
sundry CSI reruns all over the place. But: if you glom it all in one
channel, then a rerun of CSI might push out a new episode you haven't
watched yet.

So, I also set up 3 per-show channels for each the new episodes. This
way you won't miss any new episodes, since the timed recordings have
priority over untimed ones.

Thanks... I got a reply some time ago and have set it up to grab all CSI
(among other shows) What I do in the case of conflicts is review the
upcoming shows and/or channel guide using DV-Archive and when I see a
conflict I use a ATI-TVwonder to grab the 2nd show.. Or in worst case a
Panasonic VCR to get the 3rd
