Dear Associate ~

I first thank you for your time. I am computer savvy and cannot figure out how to fix a friend's laptop sound problems. She has:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3
Sony Electronics Inc.
VAIO computer
Intel (R) Pentium M
Processor 1.60 Hz

I have uninstalled/reinstalled the RealTek Sound drivers and still no sound. I've hooked up studio monitors to the headphone port, and can barely hear sound if turn volume turn extremely HIGH. I have never heard sound from the laptop speakers by themselves.

Do you have any advise for me?

Solution
Looks like the on-board sound circuit is bad. A new motherboard will solve this, but motherboard replacement is not easy on a laptop. And the board may be expensive.
