Vertical bar on hdtv

have a 27" hdtv that has developed wide, colored vertical bar accross the screen. The sound is fine. sometime when I turn it off and back on its good for a while then the bars come back. is the tv shot or can something be done?

Anytime there is a vertical bar, it is usually a panel failure which is not cost effective to replace. They have TABs on the panel that are machine bonded from the factory and when they come loose you get that bar.
