video editing for resizing changing aspect ratio

hi I have some movies on my computer that I like to put on usb and then play them through the TV via usb the problem is they are mostly wide screen and play in a letterbox type format. On my computer I can just change the aspect ratio to fix that but when playing on the TV I cant. So I was wondering if anyone knows of a program or something that I can change the aspect ratio of the movie permanently so it plays in full screen on the TV.

It's usually a pretty bad idea to stretch video - it looks like someone has, well, stretched the people.

Black bars are better than weird people.

Your TV might have a button marked aspect ratio or some such.

Someone Somewhere is right. Stretching the video is a bad idea. You should, as was suggested, see if there is an option on your TV to change the aspect ratio. It may not be worded as such but experimenting with the TV settings may be the way to go.
