Hi,

I bought a desktop computer last summer for video editing and I'm very pleased with it (i7 3770, 16gb ram, Radeon 6850, gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H). My concern is that I can only edit when I am at home but I would like to be able to work when I'm away or when I have breaks at school.

Since I'm working in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, I could either buy a Macbook Pro or a PC laptop. Even though they are overpriced, macbooks have good battery life and good built quality. So I was wondering if I should either go for a Macbook Pro or stay on windows on a laptop? If I should get a conventional laptop, which brand or model make good quality built/battery life/screen resolution?

0. What is your budget? up to 1500$

1. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering? 13" to 15"

2. Some specifications i5 or i7 CPU, 8gb of RAM or more

3. What screen resolution do you want? The higher, the better, I will be doing video editing so I need to have a good overall view of my workspace with only one screen

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop? I need an alternative solution for out of home work.

5. How much battery life do you need? 5h +

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)? No, games are totally irrelevant to me... on the laptop ;)

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need? 256gb or more (enough for a few programs, will be using external HDD for most of my stuff)

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop? 2 years or more

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ? No need for any of this

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons. I want something I can trust, rely on

14. Date of purcahse June/July 2013

After looking at laptops the whole night, I found 3 potential candidates.

ASUS N56VS: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=77404&vpn=N56VZ-DH71-CA&manufacture=ASUS

Samsung NP700: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=77098&vpn=NP700Z5C-S04CA&manufacture=Samsung&promoid=1334

Sony VAIO S: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=79361&vpn=SVS15127CDB&manufacture=Sony%20VAIO

Samsung seems to have the best battery out of them all while the Asus gives the most for the money and Sony the least. That being said, Sony Vaio's reputation is pretty good. I pretty much never heard of Samsung laptops before, but they look good and their specs are pretty good. Also Samsung usually has good product quality, I guess it must be good? And lastly there's the Asus, usually Asus is pretty solid, but my father has had many problems with his medium-line Asus laptop.

Can anyone enlighten me on my choice?

EDIT:

I also just found out about the Lenovo y580: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=77165&vpn=59345717&manufacture=Lenovo%20Consumer
