video recording size

my mobile is xolo q800. it can record hd video ie 720P.but the recording is in 3GP fromat!!!The quality and size is very huge.For suppose its take 10MB for a 9sec video!!Any video with that size shouild be of other format ie may be .mkv or .mp4 etc. i need to know then reason why hd recording is in 3gp?

Because your mobile device doesn't have the "horsepower" to convert it on the fly.
