Video to DVD converter + Burner (free) recommendations

For the longest time I've used DVDvideosoft as my Video converter to DVD format and burner. I recently needed in reinstall the program but AVG flags it as containing a Trojan [Malsign Generic] now I know from the past that DVDvideosoft contains a toolbar/search bullshit that I had to uninstall after I installed it and didn't want to go through that again.

I need a free program that will convert videos (.avi , .264x , .mp4) over to a DVD format and a burner that will burn them to DVD's.

Recommendations? what do you use? think I should just use dvdvideosoft and deal with the inbedded BS I have to clean off my PC after install?

avidemux can convert for you and as for creating and burning dvds DVDstyler will be the best choice. Both are free. DVDstyler can burn all formats as well so you could take for example an MKV and build a dvd with menues etc. As far as I am aware it converts the files to VOB and then burns it
