Virus killed my Lenovo g580 hard drive

My daughters hard drive is completely empty. I have to think that a virus killed it from the movie or music apps that she uses. It is a windows 8 version and I have two identical laptops that I bought for my twins for Christmas. I was wandering if I could copy the Operating system from one to the other. I was told that the product key lives on the bios, so I cannot see a problem with this. Please let me know if this is possible and how to do so. Thanks.

I'd call Lenovo(it should be under warranty), and ask them about recovery disks.
