Virus? PC automatically downloading

My PC over the last 2 weeks has downloaded between 10-20 gigs per day on top of what I download.

I have XP

Untill I turned my modem off at night, It was also downloading when turned off.

My wireless settings are disabled.

Does anybody know what is happening?

Is this a virus?

What can i do about it?

A tech-support guy at a company i worked for years ago would often reply to my questions with "PC's have a mind of their own. No one knows what they are going to do. Sometimes they get together and say 'lets pick on that guy'"

How can a computer download when it's off?

Are you on a home network? It's possible that another computer on the network is downloading. You need to scan each computer on the network for viruses and malware.
