VPN for surfing on public networks: need to block all connection to the internet without VPN

Hi guys

I'm looking for a VPN service that I can use from my Android and PC when I'm on public hotspots.
I've tested HideMyAss but unfortunately between the time the connection is made on the public hotspot and the time HMA is actually launched, data is being sent and received un-securely.

If you happen to know a VPN service that solves this issue, that would be great.

A free VPN that I have used sometimes is called hotspot-shield. I'm fairly sure they have a android version to.

I am using OpenVPN Android Client. The problem you're describing is not with the VPN server or client - as for now, I don't know of Android setting describing a connection as "untrusted" or not, therefore preventing background transfers.

Actually I've been testing Avast antivirus on my Android recently and when it detects I'm connected to a hotspot (= wifi without a password protection) it asks me if I want to protect it with AVAST VPN solution (https/play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avast.android.vpn&hl=en). I haven't tested it yet but if that works well, this would be perfect.

If not, then I don't see a way to really be sure that your data is not going to be send in clear over the network?
