There are many good brands for gaming computers. My brother has an ASUS and they are pretty good for the price point. An i7 processor is probably the way to go since you play GTA IV and that game is optimized for quad cores. As far as GPUs anything Nvidia GT 540M or AMD Radeon 6650M should be good enough. As far as displays go, they are all HD. 1360 x 768 is the resolution that is quite common. You are gonna pay a premium for higher resolutions. Of course if you have a lower resolution display, you won't need the fastest parts out there. A far as I know all of the displays are LCD that are LED back lit.

Here are some suggestions:

lenovo IdeaPad Y570 (08622JU) Notebook Intel Core i7 2630QM(2.00GHz) 15.6" 8GB Memory DDR3 1333 750GB HDD 5400rpm BD Combo NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M

Acer Aspire AS5750G-9463 Notebook Intel Core i7 2630QM(2.00GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 640GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M

(this may be the best choice for the price)

Acer Aspire AS7750G-9657 Notebook Intel Core i7 2630QM(2.00GHz) 17.3" 6GB Memory 750GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi AMD Radeon HD 6650M

Compaq seems to be HP's more budget oriented brand. There's probably not much there for you. Sony is great, but much like Apple, their products are somewhat more expensive than what other company would offer at a comparable spec. HP has nice laptops, especially their ENVY series, which is worth looking into if you like their design/build quality/build material (aluminum outer shell, like Macs). Spec wise, taco already listed a bunch of nice choices, with the Lenovo Y570 and the HP dv7 probably being the best bang for your buck.

the hp envy's can be either dual core i5s or quad cores i7s. That's a $100 difference.

Base specs for $1299:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
2nd generation Intel(R) Dual Core(TM) i5-2410M (2.3 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz
1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6850M Graphics [HDMI]
6GB 1333MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
750GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 2.25 hours of battery life +++
17.3" diagonal HD+ HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1600 x 900)
SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
HP TrueVision HD Webcam
Intel 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) with Wireless Display Support
Keyboard
Backlit Keyboard with numeric keypad

More info on the graphics card:

Overall a great system.

If you utilize a parcel forwarding company then you can order from the US Hp website and any other US based website for that matter

I've used a company called Bongo International for a almost a year now- you set up a US postal address on their site, they receive your items from any US based online website and put it all in one box if needed.(This saves $ on shipping.) Then they ship it overseas to you. You can track on their website the whole way, great website technology.

Here is the link of transit times, info, etc. to Japan through Bongo:

Good luck, that is a sweet computer!

That seems to be a way to order stuff on the US website and get it shipped to your location
