want to output tv sound to headphones have Dual RCA to to 3.5mm adapter.

Hello I have a Samsung 32 in tv with no headphone jack but 2 (red and white) audio outputs. I have purchased a RCA>3.5 mm headphone adapter and have the headphones I want to use. However simply plugging everything in does not seem to work. Is what I'm trying to do impossible, or (more likely) am I simply missing something I have to change in the TV's preferences?

The tv's rca's probably only put out line level voltage so you would need a headphone amp.
